Since I’m a foodie, I was invited by one of my Canadian friends to check out the newly opened Canadian restaurant in Jumeira ” Maple Leaf Restaurant” as their famous smoked meat sandwich was 1 of her childhood symbols back home. As a burger lover and a person who grew in the culture of the American fast-food style burgers I decided to go for a change and explore the place since we don’t have any Canadian restaurants as far as I know other than the famous Canadian coffee house Tim Hortins.
The moment I entered the place I felt the Canadian vibe. The atmosphere was cool and welcoming with all the famous hockey T-shirt and players photos hanging on the wall, and the service was efficient and friendly .Menu is so simple and you won’t get confused , Every sandwich I’ve had there is so satisfying. I ordered their smoked meat sandwich Montreal style ,chicken club sandwich , reuben sandwich & messy hubert a personal favorite is their Original Smoked meat sandwich which was sliced into thin slices so that it will melt in your mouth, extra mustard highly recommended and you will be good to go to hit the spot of the food satisfaction & your taste buds will thank you 😉
After trying the smoked meat sandwich I went home and searched online on how to do such a sandwich and according to the online recipes the smoked meat sandwich is beef brisket that’s cured for several days 5-7 days, then cold-smoked, baked, and seasoned with a pepper and coriander rub.
If you are not in the mood for a sandwich you can go for their baby spinach salad or caesar salad or their sticky licky chicken wings and if you can’t decide you can go for a bomb called poutine which is to me a death by carbs 😛 it’s consists of homemade fries or french fries topped with gravy sauce and cheese curds which results to super moist and cheesy combination.
Don’t forget to leave a room for their desserts. I have ordered the famous Canadian treat castor tail or beaver tail which is actually a pastry or flat donut made with whole-wheat and hand stretched to resemble the tail of the beaver and served hot with 2 options of topping dulce (caramel) or nutella. Other desserts I have ordered is the new trend kronut which is a combination of croissant and donut.
In summary you will be wow’ed with their sandwiches. Calling out to all Canadians if you want to feel home, just go to Maple leaf and grab a sandwich and as to all foodies out there this is what Canadian hockey champions eat.
